Round shallow plate - glazed / matte
Size: height 3cm diameter 12-13cm
Born in Neyagawa City in Osaka as the son of a painter, Sakamoto Takeshi in his teenage years never thought of following the path of his father as a painter nor a potter. His family moved away from Osaka to the bordering Hyogo prefecture, Sasayama city, a city known for Tanbayaki - tanba ware - one of the six oldest kilns in Japan.
Perhpas this move painted the fate of his life as his father encouraged him to become an apprentice to a local potter. Without any experience of ceremics or clay, he learned everything from scratch. There were many difficult moments but thinking back he is glad that he did not give up and hold onto it. His work continues to evolves from being an apprentice to setting up his own kiln tatsumigama to moving back to Sakai city in Osaka.
His pieces are still as mesmerising as ever. On top of that, it is his warming and kindhearted personality that makes him more charming.
Behind each ware is a story. Our role is to introduce these stories behind different artists of the ware we use to provide a unique tea experience to our guests.
